In times of crisis, we are here to help.  Our Crisis Response Unit includes our Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team and our Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT).  Between deployments, these team members work in regular assignments within the Patrol, Traffic, Support Services, or Detective Divisions.

SWAT

Our SWAT Team trains together regularly and is ready to respond when their specialized skills are required.  In addition to serving high-risk warrants, the SWAT Team will handle situations that involve a hostage, a barricaded suspect, or a suspect who poses a significant threat to the lives and safety of others.

CNT

Our crisis negotiators are highly-trained communicators who respond to a variety of incidents, including standoffs, hostage situations, kidnappings, and pursuits.  They use their training and skills to engage people in dialogue and can provide an assessment of a person’s psychological state and propensity for violence.  They can also advise our tactical teams on the best strategies to use, based on the mental state of the people involved.
