Fatal Traffic Collision

Post Date:05/19/2026 9:09 pm

On May 19, 2026, at 4:05 pm, the NBPD Communications Center received several 911 calls of a traffic collision involving six vehicles at the intersection of San Miguel Drive and Macarthur Boulevard.

Officers arrived on scene and immediately began rendering aid to the male driver of a black Toyota Corolla with significant collision damage. That male was subsequently transported to Mission Hospital by the NBFD, where he was pronounced deceased by medical staff. One additional driver was transported to Hoag Hospital for a complaint of pain; all other drivers and passengers were released from the scene.

The intersection remained closed for several hours while the NBPD Traffic Division conducted an extensive investigation into the cause of the collision. Preliminary evidence indicates the Toyota Corolla was traveling westbound on San Miguel Drive approaching Macarthur Boulevard when, for unknown reasons, the Corolla collided with several vehicles that were stopped for the solid red light. This collision pushed an Audi Q5 into the intersection, where it collided with a Nissan that was turning from E/B San Miguel Drive onto N/B Macarthur Boulevard.

The identity of the deceased male will be released by the Orange County Coroner’s Office pending notification of next of kin.

Anyone with additional information about this collision is encouraged to contact Traffic Investigator Nate Farris at nfarris@nbpd.org or 949-644-3746.
