On Thursday, April 24, 2025 at approximately 11:15 PM, NBPD Communications received a call of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision which just occurred at the intersection of 22nd Street / Newport Blvd. Officers arrived on scene within one minute of the collision and determined the vehicle involved in the collision fled the scene prior to officer arrival, without stopping to render aid to the victim. The Victim (pedestrian) sustained major injuries and was transported to a local trauma center by NBFD paramedics. Due to the severity of the victim’s injuries, the NBPD Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to the scene and began conducting an investigation into the collision.
Over the next several days, MAIT and NBPD Motor Officers conducted an extensive investigation that spanned multiple counties in an effort to locate the suspect and related vehicle. On Saturday, April 26th the suspect vehicle in question was located in the city of Fontana, and subsequently towed back to Newport Beach for forensic processing. On Tuesday, April 29th, the suspect was located and arrested for 20001(A)VC- Hit and Run Resulting in Injury and booked at the NBPD Jail.
Suspect: Samantha Sandoval, female, Hispanic, age 21 from Jurupa Valley.
