Teen Academy Schedule
The Newport Beach Police Department is proud to offer the Teen Academy to local students. Designed to increase the understanding of the Police Department's operations, the Academy is conducted over an seven week period. Students will learn from department personnel who are experts in the areas of SWAT, K-9, Narcotics, major crimes, Patrol and Helicopter Operations, Traffic laws, firearms, driving under the influence, and other related fields. All students will participate in practical demonstrations and a ride-along sometime during the Academy session.
Students will gain an overall knowledge of the Newport Beach Police Department. They will learn how it is organized, how the Department serves the Community, and how they respond when citizens call. Even though the subject matter is similar to a traditional police academy, the Teen Academy is not designed to prepare students to be police officers. The Academy is an educational opportunity designed to be a fun learning experience. Instructors come from all areas of the Department. Students will meet the Chief of Police, Supervisors, Patrol Officers, Detectives, Dispatchers, and other members of the Department. The goal of the Academy is to provide an avenue of communication between the Police Department and young adults in the Community. Instructors encourage students to ask questions and express their concerns about pertinent issues. Students can earn up to 25 Community Service hours to help fulfill their graduation requirement. Requirements to Apply: Must be between the ages of 14-18 years old
