Lieutenant Jeff Lu

Lieutenant Jeff Lu is currently assigned as the Traffic Division Lieutenant. The Traffic Lieutenant supervises the daily activities of the Traffic Section, which includes Parking and Animal Control.  The Traffic Division Lieutenant also serves as a member of the Management Team.

Lieutenant Lu began his law enforcement career in 1988 when he joined the Newport Beach Police Department.  He has held a variety of positions including Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Accident Investigator, Detective, Traffic Supervisor, Reserve Unit Commander, Patrol Watch Commander, Professional Standards Lieutenant, and Chaplain Program Coordinator.  In addition to his regular duties in these assignments, the Lieutenant has also served on the S.W.A.T. Team and as a Hostage Negotiation Team Leader.

In addition to graduating from the Supervisory Leadership Institute, Lieutenant Lu has also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Information and Computer Science from University of California, Irvine, and is a Facilitator for the International Association of Chiefs of Police “Leadership in Police Organizations” Program.

Lieutenant Lu grew up in North Tustin, CA and enjoys basketball, running, and spending time with his family.
