Lieutenant Rob Morton

Lieutenant Rob Morton is currently assigned as the Area 3 Commander in the Patrol Division.  Area Commanders are responsible for their designated section of the City and serve as members of the Management Team.  Area 3 includes Corona del Mar, Newport Coast, Cameo Shores, Cameo Highlands, Spyglass Hill and the Port Streets.  Lieutenant Morton also oversees the Defensive Tactics Instructors, the Gang Suppression Unit, and the Reserve Officer Program.

After beginning his law enforcement career with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department in 1983, Lieutenant Morton joined the Newport Beach Police Department in 1985. During his career, Lieutenant Morton has held varied positions, including Field Training Officer, Bike Officer, Motor Officer, Accident Investigator, Economic Crimes Detective, and Crime Scene Investigator.

Lieutenant Morton has received a Bachelor of the Arts Degree in Social Sciences from Chapman University and a Juris Doctor degree from Whittier Law School. He is also an attorney at law and a member of the State Bar of California.

Lieutenant Morton grew up in the Orange County area of Southern California.
