Deputy Chief Jon Lewis
Deputy Chief Jon Lewis is currently assigned as the Patrol and Traffic Division Commander. The Patrol Division Commander exercises line command over personnel in the combined Patrol and Traffic Divisions and serves as a member of the Command Staff and the Management Team.
Deputy Chief Lewis began his law enforcement career with the Newport Beach Police Department and has worked in a variety of assignments, including Bike Patrol, Gang Suppression, Drug Recognition Expert, SWAT, Economic Crimes Detective, Field Training Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Professional Standards Unit Sergeant, Patrol Division Watch Commander, Support Services Commander, Executive Officer, and Detective Division Commander. In addition to his regular duties, the Deputy Chief has also served as the Crisis Negotiation Team Commander.
Deputy Chief Lewis holds a Bachelor of the Science degree in Criminal Justice with a Minor in Speech Communication from Long Beach State University and a Master of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Chapman University. He is a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute as well as the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Command College Class #56.
Deputy Chief Lewis has been highly involved with the Newport Beach community for many years. He is a graduate of the Leadership Tomorrow program and currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors. He recently served on the 2014 Bowl Championship Series Host Committee and is currently a member of the 2015 Special Olympics World Games Committee.
Deputy Chief Lewis grew up in Orange County and enjoys playing water polo, reading and traveling.
