Operation Identification is the process of electronically engraving your California drivers license number onto your property so that it can easily be identified if stolen. Some valuables may, because of their size and/or nature, require alternative methods of marking to prevent damage. If marking an item would damage or destroy its value, an alternative method of recording that item, such as photography or videotaping, should be used.
The use of the Operation Identification program has proven an effective method of identifying, protecting and recovering stolen property. For your convenience the Newport Beach Police Department provides engravers that can be checked out for a three-day period of time. A check of $15 is required as collateral. Checks will be returned when the engraver is checked back in. The Police Department is located at 870 Santa Barbara Drive in Newport Beach.
