How do I Adopt a Pet?

Animals available for adoption from the City of Newport Beach are located on Petango.com, the Newport Beach Animal Shelter Facebook page, and Petfinder.com. Petango.com contains a live listing that is updated in real time. If you see an animal you would like to meet and possibly adopt, please contact Animal Control at 949-644-3656 or aco@nbpd.org to schedule an appointment.

May we suggest that your first step to adopting any animal should be the selection of the breed of dog or cat that will best suit you and your family needs. Itís always wise to do a little homework first, read books or magazines that give detailed information about the various attributes or deficiencies of the various breeds that are of interest to you.

Once you have narrowed your list of potential breeds and have decided on the approximate age group, you can begin your search for the dog, puppy, cat or kitten thatís just right for you.

Hundreds of thousands of homeless animals find their way to Animal Shelters across the county. Because of this, we highly recommend that your adoption efforts start at one of these Animal Shelters.

Animal Adoption Application:

The adoption process begins with the completion of an Animal Adoption Application form. Applications can be completed at any time during and after the required stray holding period. NO APPLICATION will be approved for adoption until the animal has been held for the entire stray holding period.
